About

Tide Mills, located between Seaford and Newhaven is a historic coastal site and popular beach. Established in the 18th century, it once housed a tidal-powered flour mill that used the sea’s energy to grind grain. The mill, expanded in the 1800s by William Catt, supported a small village with homes, a school, and greenhouses. Though the mill closed in 1883 and the village was abandoned by 1939, the ruins remain a fascinating glimpse into the past. Today, Tide Mills is a peaceful spot where visitors can explore the remnants of history, enjoy nature walks, and swim at the beach.
